Joni passed away April 29, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones after a courageous seven month battle with Leiomyosarcoma. Joni was diagnosed in early September 2021 and underwent surgery to remove the initial tumor which originated in the uterus. After a complicated surgery, she began treatment in October 2021. She first began with radiation therapy and went through 34 rounds of radiation. Shortly after the completion of her radiation, a second tumor was discovered and she began with aggressive chemotherapy treatment, unfortunately with no luck.
Joni was a devout Christian and loving mother and wife. She spent 35 years as a hair stylist and loved her profession and the relationships she developed with her customers over the years. Her laughter, love, and kind heart had a positive effect on everyone who knew her.
In Joni’s honor we would like to bring awareness to the sarcoma community and it’s need for funding for vital research. This disease is rare and research for new treatments and knowledge is crucial for Sarcoma patients and their families. Joni was a brave warrior in her battle and her memory will live on forever. We love you forever.
