The John W. O’Brien Family Foundation (TJWOFF) was established in 2023, in memory of John O’Brien who passed away in 2022 following a four-year battle with Chondrosarcoma. The foundation leadership includes John’s wife, Pat O’Brien, and their four children: John, Jr., Teri, Tim, and Carmel.
The foundation’s primary mission is to raise sarcoma cancer awareness and fund research to cure this dreaded disease. Additionally, TJWOFF endeavors to continue the thoughtful and generous nature John demonstrated throughout his life. TJWOFF hosts Big Heart Fest, named for “Big Johnny’s Big Heart” a music festival celebrating John O’Brien and his joyful spirit. The event features an incredible lineup of live bands, including Bronte Fall, led by his daughter, Teri. The event location is Chief O’Neill’s Pub and Restaurant in Chicago, Big Johnny’s favorite Irish Pub.
The third Big Heart Fest will take place on Saturday, June 13, 2026. All proceeds benefit Sarcoma Foundation of America.
