Camryn Shull

Camryn Shull was born and raised in Staunton, VA. She was well known in the community as the star setter on her high school volleyball team and for her work at the local Food Lion. Camryn valued family and friendships, drawing people to her with her kind personality, creating lifelong friendships from near and far. During her junior year at James Madison University, Camryn was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. She had two large tumors on her sacrum that were the size of softballs. Despite this, she persevered with her education, consistently making the president’s and dean’s lists each semester while undergoing a major 12-hour surgery and treatments at UVA Hospital and a clinical trial at VCU Massey Cancer Center. Camryn was in remission in the middle of her treatments for about three months in the summer of 2021, so she spent all of her time at her favorite place in the world, the beach. Camryn’s cancer returned and has spread to her lungs. Camryn continued with numerous rounds of various treatments as well as physical and occupational therapy. Camryn successfully graduated from JMU in May of 2022 with a degree in Communication Science Disorders. After graduating in May of 2022, Camryn was unfortunately in an out of the emergency room and ICU due to treatment complications. Camryn prioritized spending as much time with her friends and family as she could. After three years of courageous battle, she tragically lost her fight in April of 2023. Camryn had a passion for helping other, supporting her local animal shelter, and spending time with those she loved. Camryn will be deeply missed by everyone who was lucky enough to get to know her.
