Waynard C. “Dev” Devers

Our father retired United State Air Force Lt. Col Waynard C. “Dev” Devers died of natural causes in hospice on Thursday, June 15, 2023 in Washington D.C.  He was a loving husband to Alma Gail Devers for over 52 years; beloved father to Chris Devers (Mie), and Allison Devers; proud grandfather to Jackson and Evi; and brother to Sonja Boothe (Bill).  He will dearly missed.

Born on September 11, 1941 in Fort Worth, Texas, Dev graduated from North Side High School, Texas Christian University, and received a master’s in economics from Central Michigan University. He served in the USAF for 20 years providing cost analysis projections of major military programs for which he was awarded the Defence Superior Service Medal. He continued his work in the defense field at the Institute for Defense Analysis until retirement. His military career took him all over the world, but primarily all over the United States, and he worked not only the for the military, but also supported NASA and space missions in his early career.

Taking after his beloved Texan parents, Dev was a lifelong Democrat. He loved the beach, boating, fishing, and playing bridge. An avid reader, he read fiction and non-fiction across all subjects and was particularly interested in American History, Science and Physics, and the American Presidents – Abraham Lincoln in particular. He also loved Westerns and Jane Austen adaptations. He was an avid supporter of TCU’s Horned Frogs football program.

He loved his family, his dogs, and his friends dearly, was a proud husband, father, uncle, and grandfather, and most cherished walking hand in hand with his wife down a white sandy beach. He valued hard work, the pursuit of rights of freedom and equality for all people, and kindness most of all. We miss him so much.
