Ride for Reid a Success
Thanks for all your help!

We are very proud to announce that we have reached our goal and rose over $25,000 to fund a sarcoma research grant in Reid’s name. Thank you to everyone who helped this journey become such a success. We hope to make the Ride for Reid (well, an abridged version) an annual event.

If you have been meaning to donate but have not yet had a chance, please take this opportunity to do so. Even though the Ride itself is over, it is never too late to make a contribution to such a deserving cause. The more we raise, the more we improve the chances - through much needed research - that progress will be made in the fight against sarcoma.

And please visit our photo gallery – we’ve put up new pictures of our meeting and press conference with Senator Mark Pryor, a sarcoma survivor and Honorary Board Member of the Sarcoma Foundation of America.

We invite you to continue the experience with us by remembering the value of giving and sharing this site with others to maintain ongoing awareness-raising about sarcoma.

Again, thank you all for such a beautiful and meaningful experience. We honestly could not have done it without you.

Shahar Eidelman and Jacob Press

March 13, 2003

We started our journey today, March 13, nearly a year after losing our friend, Reid Brecher, to a relatively rare form of cancer called sarcoma. Sarcoma, once it is detected, is often very resistant to treatment. We chose to ride our bicycles from Los Angeles, CA, to Rockville, MD, in order to commemorate the end of our first year without Reid. We want to celebrate his life, friendship and remarkable spirit.

Our 4,000-mile trip, the Ride for Reid: Coast to Coast to Cure Sarcoma, has begun in Los Angeles, CA, and will take us through the desert Southwest, on to Nashville, TN, where Reid graduated from Vanderbilt University. We’ll finish up in Washington, DC, where Reid grew up and where he returned to start life as a young adult.

We will pull into the Brecher family driveway on May 12th, on what would have been Reid’s twenty-fifth birthday, with the hope of having raised $25,000 for the Sarcoma Foundation of America to fund a research grant in Reid’s name.

Our Motivation

We chose the challenging task of bicycling cross-country as a reminder of Reid’s impressive courage and strength, both physical and mental. Carrying on Reid’s memory, we are continuing his amazing and determined fight against cancer. We’re using the ride to raise awareness about the disease and help fund very much-needed sarcoma research.

The Sarcoma Foundation of America is the only national organization dedicated to promoting research that seeks new and better therapies for patients with sarcoma. We hope to increase sarcoma awareness and raise money for new methods of treatment. Hopefully, through this effort, Reid’s struggle and his spirit can persevere to help others who may someday find themselves up against the illness.
